Cool date.
Also, election day!

I've just voted, which was quite exciting.

that said, this is probably the least exciting election I can recall, in some respects. I'm somewhat ambivelant about the current government, but still find a third term for Labour infinitely preferable to having a Tory government with Michael 'I sucka your blood, ah ha ha!'Howard at its head.

My dad and I had a debate about the Iraq war over the weekend. He is of the opinion that history will judge it to be the right course of action, and that Blair has succeeded to some degree in influencing Bush and tempering his attitudes and actions.
I'm not sure whether I agree with that or not, but I'm certainly uncomfortable with the way in which we went to war (i.e. without the suppport of the UN).

That said, it's very easy to critisize government, and less easy to know exactly how you'd have done it and how that would have worked out. I'm fairly happy with what the Labour government have done (particularly when contrasted with the imaginary nightmare of Tory government over the last term.)

My fear with this election is that a voter apathy and Iraq protest voting will combine to let the Conservatives gain a majority. None of the polls or analysis seem to think this likely, which can only contribute to (Labour) voter apathy, and make it more liekly to occur...

What I would like to see is Labour lose seats to the Lib-Dems (as a vote against the government), and the Tories lose seats to the Lib-Dems (because the Tories are a hapless bunch of small-minded greedy fools, only interested in protecting their own worthless hides).

This would result in a Labour third term with a reduced majority, with an opposition consisting of a strong Lib-Dem representation. This would be another step towards having the Lib-Dems replacing the Tories as the main opposition party.

Then we might be able to have two credible parties worth voting for, a meaningful democracy, that'd be nice!

Anyway, fingers crossed, I'll have to wait and see. just as long as the Tories don't get in...
