Swindon in the playoffs!!

12 May 2004 - 4:56pm -- Joseph

Swindon actually made it into the play-offs!!

I'm naturally very pleased about this. They all but confirmed their play-off status some weeks ago, needing only one point from three games (and not even that if other results went their way). However, in a true display of inconsistancy that will be familiar to any true fan (i.e. not Man United fans...) they contrived to lose two on the trot and almost threw it all away.

In their final game they played fellow play-off contenders Hartlepool, a draw being good enough for both teams to finish above Port vale and in the play-off positions.

At 4.40 on Saturday I was watching Final Score, with Swindon and Hartlepool drawing 1-1 and Port Vale winning. I was on the edge of my seat, convinced that until the final whislt was confirmed, Town could still blow it at the last minute.

I needn't have fretted. I am reliably informed by a friend of a friend, (who's hamster's therapist's wife was at the match) that once Hartlepool equalised at 70-ish minutes, both teams seemed happy to settle for the draw. There followed a lacklustre 20 minutes of which Juan Sebastian Veron would have been proud.

Oh well, who cares, we're in!

Brighton will be no pushover, and if we get past them then meeting Bristol City (in all likelihood) in Cardiff is going to be a difficult, but messers Parkin and Mooney have a tidy goal tally between them...

tidy?!?!... See, I'm speaking Welsh already!!

Cardiff here we come - up the Town!!
