R.E.M. - Ipswich 8/7/05

18 July 2005 - 8:29pm -- Joseph

We saw R.E.M. at Portman Road, Ipswich Town's football ground last week.we bought the tickets ages ago, and I didn't think much of their last album, so I was less excited than I should have been, considering the price of the tickets (no, I'm not telling you, more than I would consider reasonable, but it was R.E.M. playing in Ipswich, Hev's home town, just before her birthday, we had to go...)

Mari's memorial

19 June 2005 - 11:31am -- Joseph

It was my friend Mari's memorial service yesterday. it was very emotional day, but a good day. After the service we had an opportunity to hang ot with all our other friends who knew Mari, and swap Mari stories. There were many friends and many stories.
Mari's mother and sister was also there. It must have been a very difficult day for them, but I hope it helped to see how well loved Mari was by her friends here in England.

Ten things Mari taught me - a tribute to Mari Hyndman

19 June 2005 - 11:12am -- Joseph

Mari had many friends and will be sorely missed by all of them.

It's perhaps her enthusiasm I'll miss the most.

Her enthusiasm for so many things was infectious. I can hear her voice in my
head, her distinctive Romanian accent enthusing about so many things.

Mari had a vulnerability that sometimes made you feel protective of her, but
at the same time, she had such strength, energy and wisdom. She inspired me
and taught me a lot, both professionally and about life in general.

I owe Mari a great deal.

Been There...

15 June 2005 - 8:46pm -- Joseph

Greetings from There...

Hev has been planning to take me away for my thirtieth for months. I've known about this, but, never knew where, it's just been referred to as: there...

Well, we're There now, and There turns out to be...

(wait for it, wait for it...)

Prague!

and it's great (though a little wet.)

We were trying to see how far we could get without me knowing where we were going. The aim was to see if we could get me on the plane and hear it from the pilot.

< 30 v > 30: match report

13 June 2005 - 5:25pm -- Joseph

We had an under thirties vs. over thirties football match on saturday, as party of my thirtieth birthday party. I played for the over-thirties, (although I'm not actually thirty until Thursday - hopefully this will be the last time I have to lie about my age...)

The turnout was pretty good, though we didn't quite have enough for eleven-a-side, so we had nine v. nine on a full size pitch, in the midday sun. It was tough going...

As of next Monday I start a new job, it is a temporary secondment to ward 6F which is a upper GI surgical ward (The stomach and above). I will be working as an F grade which is a team leader role. This is a great opportunity for me to get some management experience.
